Countdown to UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: 125 Days to Go!

The excitement is building as we are now just 125 days away from the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 kick-off in Switzerland. From July 2 to July 27, 2025, Europe’s top 16 women’s national teams will battle for continental glory in what promises to be a thrilling tournament. With host cities spanning across the beautiful Swiss landscape, fans can expect world-class football in an unforgettable setting.

Host Nation: Switzerland

Switzerland, known for its breathtaking landscapes and passionate sports culture, is set to deliver a spectacular tournament. This is the first time the country will host the UEFA Women’s Euro, marking a historic moment for Swiss football. Matches will be held in eight cities:

  • Basel
  • Bern
  • Geneva
  • Zurich
  • Lucerne
  • St. Gallen
  • Thun
  • Sion

Each city offers a unique atmosphere, ensuring that players and fans alike will experience the very best of Swiss hospitality. The final will take place at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, the largest stadium in the country, with a capacity of over 38,000 fans.

Tournament Format

This will be the 14th edition of the UEFA Women’s Euro and the third tournament since the competition expanded to 16 teams. The teams will be split into four groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. From there, the competition will intensify in the knockout rounds until a champion is crowned in Basel on July 27, 2025.

With more teams competing and women’s football growing in popularity, expect an action-packed tournament filled with upsets, dramatic moments, and new stars emerging on the international stage.

Defending Champions & the Competition

England’s Lionesses will head into the tournament as the defending champions, having won their first-ever European title in 2022 on home soil. Under Sarina Wiegman, England has established itself as one of the most dominant teams in women’s football. However, their recent performances in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the UEFA Nations League suggest they will face stiff competition.

  • Spain, the reigning World Champions, will arrive in Switzerland with sky-high confidence. After winning the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, they proved their squad depth and tactical superiority. With world-class players like Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas, Spain will be one of the biggest threats to England’s crown.
  • Germany, traditionally the most successful nation in Women’s Euro history, will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing group-stage exit in the 2023 World Cup. Despite their struggles, they remain a powerhouse, with a squad filled with young talent and experienced leaders.
  • France is a team with enormous potential, having reached the 2023 World Cup semifinals and proving their ability to compete at the highest level. Under Hervé Renard, they’ve become a more disciplined and well-balanced side, and they will be serious contenders in Switzerland.
  • Sweden remains a strong force in women’s football, securing a third-place finish at the 2023 World Cup after defeating Australia. Their mix of experienced leaders and rising stars makes them a dangerous opponent for any team.
  • The Netherlands, the 2017 European champions, have been inconsistent in recent years but remain a team to watch. With a talented squad led by stars like Vivianne Miedema, if fully recovered from injury, the Dutch will aim to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite.
  • Switzerland, as hosts, will look to make a strong impression in front of their home fans. While not considered among the tournament favorites, they have the advantage of home support and could cause surprises in the group stage.

With so many top-tier teams in the mix, UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive editions in history.

The Countdown Begins!

With just 125 days to go, the excitement is reaching fever pitch. Teams are finalizing their squads, fans are making travel plans, and the host cities are preparing to welcome the world. Will England defend their title? Will Spain continue their dominance? Or will we see a surprise champion emerge?

One thing is certain: women’s football is bigger and better than ever, and Euro 2025 will be a tournament to remember!

Stay tuned as we get closer to kick-off!
