Week 13 – Round up of the WSL

The Women’s Super League delivered a mix of tense encounters and dominant performances this weekend. Manchester United edged past Tottenham 1-0, thanks to an early goal from Emma Terland, who finished off a pinpoint pass from Jade Riviere. United controlled most of the match but had to weather late pressure from Spurs. Meanwhile, Chelsea also secured a narrow 1-0 win against Aston Villa, benefiting from a late Sarah Mayling own goal after relentless second-half pressure.

Everton produced the most emphatic win of the round, thrashing Leicester City 4-1. Toni Gago opened the scoring early, but Leicester hit back through Shannon O’Brien. However, the second half belonged to Everton, with Katja Snoeijs, Riko Ueki, and a second from Gago sealing the dominant victory. Over in Brighton, fans witnessed late drama as Crystal Palace snatched a 1-1 draw. Brighton took the lead after a Lucy Woodham own goal, but Palace found a last-minute equalizer through Maisie Symonds. Adding to the tension, Brighton went down to ten players after Symonds saw red just after halftime, yet they held on for a point.

At Anfield, Liverpool battled to a 1-0 victory over West Ham, with Leanne Kiernan netting in the first half. Despite late pressure from the Hammers, Liverpool stood firm to take all three points.

The standout match of the round saw Arsenal edge Manchester City 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. Both teams went all-out in attack, but Arsenal emerged victorious in a pulsating encounter that could have major implications for the title race.

City found themselves two goals down inside eight minutes after a rapid Arsenal start, with Mariona Caldentey and Lotte Wubben-Moy getting on the scoresheet. Mary Fowler pulled one back for City before halftime, and the momentum swung when Vivianne Miedema equalized early in the second half.

Arsenal, however, quickly restored their lead through Frida Maanum, only for Fowler to convert from the penalty spot to make it 3-3. The decisive moment came in the 78th minute, when Stina Blackstenius fired home the winner.

For Arsenal, this result is a statement win, proving they can outgun their closest rivals. For City, it’s a frustrating setback as they try to keep pace at the top.
