ToggleWeek 7 - Round up of the WSL
Week 7 of the Women’s Super League brought a revitalized Arsenal to the spotlight, while Manchester City and Chelsea continued to showcase their dominance. Arsenal looked like a transformed side, demonstrating fluid combinations and a sharper edge in the final third, cruising to a comfortable 5-0 victory. Beth Mead opened the scoring with a trademark low finish, putting Arsenal ahead within 30 minutes. Caitlin Foord added a quick tap-in from a Little cross, and Frida Leonhardsen-Maanum fired in a spectacular goal, taking Arsenal to a commanding 3-0 lead in just 25 minutes. With the game all but settled, Arsenal rotated players in the second half but kept up the pressure, adding goals from Lina Hurtig and Alessia Russo (penalty) to complete the 5-0 scoreline.
Manchester City, meanwhile, showcased their relentless ambition. After narrowly missing the title last season, they’ve come out blazing this year. Fueled by the playmaking of Lauren Hemp, who racked up three assists, and the clinical finishing of Khadija Shaw, who netted another hat trick, City eased to a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
In another fixture, Manchester United faced Aston Villa in a game that could have gone Villa’s way if they had been more clinical up front. Despite a strong midfield display led by Jordan Nobbs, Villa struggled to finish their chances. United, on the other hand, looked disjointed, and questions are beginning to arise about manager Mark Skinner’s hold on the team. Elsewhere, Crystal Palace and Everton battled to a 1-1 draw, while West Ham United finally secured their first win of the season.

The game of the weekend
The Women’s Football Blog Game of the Weekend was, of course, Liverpool vs. Chelsea. Liverpool started brightly, with star players Marie Höbinger and Olivia Smith leading the charge. However, as is often the case against top-tier teams, failing to capitalize on early chances proved costly. Chelsea seized control with two quick goals just before halftime—first from Mayra Ramirez, then from Guro Reiten, capitalizing on a poor clearance by Rachel Laws. This double blow left Liverpool reeling. They continued to press forward and created several promising chances, but luck wasn’t on their side. In the final minute of regular time, Aggie Beever-Jones sealed the game, securing a decisive 3-0 win for the Blues.
