The 2022 CONCACAF W Championship was the 11th edition of this tournament and was held in Mexico from the 4-18th of July 2022. The tournament served as the CONCACAF qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, as well as for the football tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. The two highest ranked teams USA and Canada were automatically qualified for this edition of the CONCACAF tournament, whereas all the other participants won their qualification group to secure a place.
Group stage draw
The draw consisted of four pots, with two teams in each of the pots based on the world rankings.

The tournament
With a lot at stake for the teams in this tournament, it could only mean one thing: very exciting games. In Group A, the USA managed to win all three of their games, by beating Haiti (3-0), Jamaica (5-0), and narrowingly avoiding a draw against Mexico (1-0) thanks to a late Mewis goal. As Jamaica managed to win their other two games, they joined USA as the top two to advance in the tournament.
In Group B Canada won all of their games, thanks to a 6-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago, a 1-0 win against Panama and a 2-0 win against Costa Rica. Behind them it was Costa Rica, who managed to grab second place to continue to the knock-out rounds.
The Knockout Stage
The semi-finals of the tournament saw the USA beating Costa Rica with a convincing 3-0 win, whereas Canada won their game against Jamaica with 3-0 as well. However, for Costa Rica and Jamaica their was still a lot at stake, the winner of the 3rd place match would qualify for the World Cup as well as for the play-off game for the Olympics against the runner-up of the final.
The final saw the USA win against Canada, thanks to an Alex Morgan penalty in the 78th minute. Hence, the USA grabbed the automatic spot to the Summer Olympics.
The two-legged CONCACAF playoff
Jamaica and Canada played a two-legged play off in september 2023 to determine which team would join the USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris. Canada won the first game in Kingston (Jamaica) with 2-0, thanks to goals by Prince and an injury time goal by Leon. The return saw them beat Jamaica again (2-1) at their home stadium in Toronto. Therefore, Canada and the USA will represent the CONCACAF at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
