The first leg of the Round 1 play-off matches has been completed, and we saw some incredible results. The Irish women’s team showed once again, how much they’ve improved over the last couple of years by winning 0-6 against Georgia. Arsenal player and Ireland captain Katie McCabe was the real star, with two goals ánd two assists to lead her team to victory. Norway, Portugal and the Czech Republic also managed to win convincingly. All eyes are now set on Tuesday, for the second leg of the Round 1 games.

In the friendlies, the game that stood out was England vs. Germany at Wembley. A disastrous start saw Germany lead by 3 goals, after just 30 minutes, before a quick double from Georgia Stanway saw England get back in the game. A more in depth analysis of this game, will be posted after the second Lionesses game on Tuesday. Furthermore, the Netherlands took care of business by beating Indonesia 15-0, as the scoreline does suggest it was a one-sided game with the Netherlands producing almost 63 shots on goal. Also noteworthy, was that Switzerland (the host of the Euroes next summer) achieved a great 1-1 result against Australia, ánd had the larger attendance for a women’s game ever. With just over 8 months left, it will be vital for the Swiss team to grab the nation’s attention, to create a wave of enthusiasm for women’s football in the country.
