Week 3 of the WSL is already here

After some exciting midweek Conti Cup action, it’s straight back to business for many WSL teams this weekend. Brighton & Hove Albion will get things underway at home against Aston Villa. Both sides have shown flashes of brilliance this season, but haven’t yet translated that into significant points. Who will come out on top in this weekend’s clash?

Sunday sees the remaining four fixtures take place, though Chelsea vs. Manchester United has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts with Chelsea’s Champions League game on Tuesday. This scheduling error lies squarely with NewCo, as the Champions League dates were set well in advance. The match should never have been arranged for Sunday in the first place. Fans who had already booked travel and accommodation are understandably frustrated by the late postponement.

Which matches will be played this weekend?

Saturday October 5th:

  •  12:30 Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Aston Villa

Sunday October 6th:

  • 13:00 Manchester City vs. West Ham United
  • 14:00 Arsenal vs. Everton
  • 14:15 Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool
  • 15:00 Leicester City vs. Crystal Palace

The game of the weekend

This weekend’s must-watch clash on The Women’s Football Blog is Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool. Both teams proved last season that they have the ability to cause big upsets against the league’s top sides. Tottenham has come out strong this year, sitting in third place with 4 points from their first two games. Meanwhile, Liverpool has shown promise but has been plagued by late goals, resulting in two 1-1 draws and just 2 points on the board. Matt Beard will no doubt be pushing for a tighter defensive display this weekend, especially with Tottenham’s attack looking sharp. Who will take the win this time around?
